NO RULES – NO MASTERS
NO RULES – NO MASTERS was the message printed on the back of a t-shirt that I recently saw worn by a young adult male. I was not close enough to engage him in a conversation, however, these words began thoughts in my mind in understanding his heart. He was (maybe, unknowingly) propagating the false concept that freedom is achieved by removing rules from society, but a society without rules is not freedom but chaos and anarchy. Without rules we are all slaves. Yes, tyrannical governments govern by laws that are deliberately enacted to enslave its citizens, nevertheless, without rules mankind becomes enslaved by many more masters. The following lines are from our article on Biblical Principles in Genesis. I will select the section that I refer to that man’s government is built on a wrong foundation.
– it’s built on the presumption that men have the ability to govern with truth, justice, and righteousness.
– it’s built on the presumption that men know what is “right” for the masses.
– it’s built on the presumption that because men know what is right, they will do what is right.
The weakness in this line of presumption is not fully understanding the heart within ALL mankind, and especially within oneself. The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)
The best government is that all leaders would have the best intention and desire to SERVE to the benefit of their citizens is NOT and never will be possible because having one person with authority who would rather benefit himself creates a corrupt government. Every member of a parliament, or a congress, or any counsel of authority must have a heart for the betterment of its nation or that leadership authority becomes a corrupting factor and a destroyer of his/her nation.
To believe that NO RULE means NO MASTER is to truly not comprehend the level of evil within oneself. There is no such thing as an earthly utopian society for even in the millennial kingdom when Christ will sit on His throne (ruling in righteousness) there will be rules, and there will be judgment for those nations who refuse to honor His Word. There is no such thing as a nation united together voluntarily that can achieve an atmosphere of tranquility and peace between neighbors, between communities, and even between family members. The absence of order and the absence of governmental authority is lawlessness. It is in this atmosphere of rebellion that violence becomes the Master. It was in this atmosphere of hatred and disobedience against God and against His children that the clan of Cain overcame the citizens of that world, and God’s judgment flowed and washed clean that old primeval world in the universal deluge.
Do I like corrupt government? Of course not, but no one desires to live within a government that cannot or will not set rules (equal rules applied equally for all).
When I first saw this t-shirt, I thought ‘What attracted this individual to those words? — he must be an idealist.’ Then my next thought was, ‘No — he is not truthful about who he is, and what he is.’ He, like all mankind, is a sinner and worthy of the judgment of a God. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 14:1)
Many say that there is ‘some good’ within all; however, if there is ‘some good’ then there must be ‘some evil.’ It has never been the measure of ‘some good’ that God speaks of, but His measure of evil that determines God’s condemnation and judgment against mankind. Even if you are 99.99% good that would make you .01% evil. Too bad, you lose! No one can achieve that standard that God has placed on His creatures because there has only been One who was/is perfect, and that is God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ who was/is the express image of God Himself manifested into this world to reveal to mankind his Creator and God in all His Perfection.
An earthly utopian world is a very pleasant thought, however, it can never be possible. What many do not have in their utopian dream is the word ‘righteousness.’ A rightness in all dealings, and a rightness in all relationships, and a rightness in every action and in every word is not within mankind. A rightness and righteousness can only come from God Himself.
Is this false trail of a perfect free world without rules and without masters a dream or is it a nightmare? An existence without laws is not an idealist dream, nor is it a nightmare, but it is definitely and defiantly insanity! Why insanity? To propagate a social construct formed around an unreasonable, unsound, and irrational concept demonstrates an inability to comprehend the very basics of humanity: that every individual is unique, and that every individual seeks to follow their own wishes, wants, and desires. This is exactly what Scripture teaches us: the basics of humanity in that all seek their own will and way, and without the constraint of law mankind descends into a self-destructive insanity.
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek [after God]: God [is] not in all his thoughts. (Psalm 10:4)
Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips [are] our own: who [is] lord over us? (Psalm 12:4)
Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? (Proverbs 20:6)
Jesus said, “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” (John 6:38)
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.(1 John 2:17)
It is the true heart within that doesn’t want freedom without masters, and it is the true heart within that desires to be a master: a master over others through violence, if need be! The words NO RULES – NO MASTER really is saying RULES FOR THEE, BUT NOT FOR ME!
We, all mankind, have come full circle (not in the circle of love, but in the circle of rebellion and hatred against a righteous God). This circle spins on the insane desire to be as gods. (Genesis 3:5) Individuals who cannot control themselves wish to control others. Individuals who cannot control themselves wish to control others.
For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. (Job 34:21)
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. (Proverbs 5:21)
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.(Proverbs 15:3)
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. (Hebrews 4:13)
Jesus said in the gospel of John Chapter 13, verse 13
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for [so] I am.
